Picante

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz high-quality blanco tequila (e.g., Patrón Silver, Don Julio Blanco, or Espolòn Blanco)

  • 1 oz fresh lime juice

  • 0.5 oz orange liqueur (e.g., Cointreau or Grand Marnier)

  • 0.5 oz agave syrup (adjust to taste)

  • 1-2 slices of fresh jalapeño (depending on desired spice level)

  • Salt (for rimming the glass)

  • Optional: a splash of orange juice for added depth

Glassware:

  • Use a classic margarita glass or a coupe glass, preferably chilled

Preparation:

  1. Prepare the Glass: Rub a lime wedge around the rim of the glass and dip it into coarse salt to create a salted rim.

  2. Muddle the Jalapeño: In a shaker, add the jalapeño slices and gently muddle to release their heat.

  3. Mix the Drink: Add the tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, agave syrup, and ice to the shaker.

  4. Shake: Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well chilled.

  5. Strain and Serve: Strain into the prepared glass. For a cleaner presentation, double strain to remove jalapeño bits.

  6. Garnish: Optionally, garnish with a lime wheel or a jalapeño slice for visual appeal.

Notes:

  • Adjust the amount of jalapeño to suit your spice preference.

  • For an extra touch of authenticity, use freshly squeezed lime juice and high-quality tequila.
