Ingredients:
-
2 oz high-quality blanco tequila (e.g., Patrón Silver, Don Julio Blanco, or Espolòn Blanco)
-
1 oz fresh lime juice
-
0.5 oz orange liqueur (e.g., Cointreau or Grand Marnier)
-
0.5 oz agave syrup (adjust to taste)
-
1-2 slices of fresh jalapeño (depending on desired spice level)
-
Salt (for rimming the glass)
-
Optional: a splash of orange juice for added depth
Glassware:
-
Use a classic margarita glass or a coupe glass, preferably chilled
Preparation:
-
Prepare the Glass: Rub a lime wedge around the rim of the glass and dip it into coarse salt to create a salted rim.
-
Muddle the Jalapeño: In a shaker, add the jalapeño slices and gently muddle to release their heat.
-
Mix the Drink: Add the tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, agave syrup, and ice to the shaker.
-
Shake: Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well chilled.
-
Strain and Serve: Strain into the prepared glass. For a cleaner presentation, double strain to remove jalapeño bits.
-
Garnish: Optionally, garnish with a lime wheel or a jalapeño slice for visual appeal.
Notes:
-
Adjust the amount of jalapeño to suit your spice preference.
-
For an extra touch of authenticity, use freshly squeezed lime juice and high-quality tequila.
