Measuring How NAC Reduces Toxic Acetaldehyde From Alcohol Breakdown
Can NAC Help with Hangovers? Here’s What a Study Found
Most people are familiar with the aftermath of a big night out, tiredness, brain fog, dehydration, and the general feeling of being a bit… wonky. A recent clinical study set out to explore whether N-acetylcysteine (NAC), a well-known antioxidant, could help ease some of these common symptoms.
In the study, healthy university students were randomly given either NAC or a placebo before and after a structured drinking session. Blood tests were taken at three points: before drinking, shortly after, and again the next morning. Participants also rated their hangover symptoms using a standard scale.
Interestingly, those who took NAC showed lower levels of acetaldehyde, a byproduct of alcohol that’s often linked to hangover effects. There were also encouraging signs that NAC helped reduce oxidative stress, potentially supporting the body’s natural detox process while they slept.
How This Connects to Feeling Wonky
NAC plays a key role in Feeling Wonky's evening formula. It’s part of our approach to overnight restoration, supporting your body as it breaks down alcohol and replenishes what’s been lost. While no supplement can erase a hangover entirely, our goal is to help you wake up with more clarity, less fog, and a better start to your day.
